For I Am The Great Cornholio

I'm probably opening myself up to a lot of bad google searches, but as longtime readers know I try to offer a plethora of helpful information. Here I am showing how I built a cornhole board set. When I was a kid, this used to be called "beanbag toss." Somehow, at least in this great midwest, it has become known as "cornhole" and is now sweeping the heartland. I have seen a lot of people playing it in their backyards, on camping trips, etc., and I was like, I should get myself a set. Then I learned they were clocking in at $100 a more. So, thanks to the trusty interwebs, I found some free cornhole board plans online and started building. Here I am with about $40 worth of lumber and some plans I am trying to make heads or tails of.

That is extremely cool. At a grad party I was at a week ago they had this new thing where there's something that looks like a portable towel rack with three rungs made out of PVC piping, and you throw these bolas-like things where it's a 6 inch length of rubber with two hard plastic balls on each end. Throw the bolas and get them to hang on a rung and you get points. Was a lot more fun than I thought it would be.

Oh, and "I need TP for my bunghole. You have some TP?"

Thanks for following me on Twitter, John! I got a lot out of blogINDIANA as well.

Looks like you have a very interesting career - I'll have to check out some of your films.

As for the cornhole set, there's actually a company in Indianapolis that makes these custom (called, appropriately enough, Indy Custom Cornhole). Their sets probably cost more than you paid, but I was surprised to find they were actually rated on Angie's List. In retrospect, would you make your own again in the future, or buy a pre-assembled custom set? My wife and I are moving to a place with a bigger yard this week, so a cornhole set is probably in our future - just not sure if we should buy or make our own.

Tristan,

Thanks for the feedback. I would definitely make this again and am in fact making four more. Really more for the fun and ownership, as well as something homemade for family. And the second time out I found some cheaper plywood at Menard's, so it clocked in closer to $40 or less for the others, more or less.

Enjoy the movies, but make sure there are no impressionable children around--within several city blocks, preferably!

Gary L, I think the game that you're talking about is sometimes referred to as Hillbilly Golf. It has an official name as well but I am clueless as to what it might be. :)
